Meet the Jewelry Designer

"Find Something You Can Be Passionate About"
-Martha Stewart

Would you believe it's all Martha Stewart's fault. When I read the above quote, the seed was planted. But what was I passionate about?

The seed was given water when my dear friend, Nozomi, introduced me to beading. She is a whiz at bead weaving and was patiently taught me various skills. Before long, I was addicted and had quite the bead stash but at this point it was still a creative outlet and just a hobby.

Wanting to learn more about jewelry design, I devoured books and scoured the internet and soon had a little journal with techniques that I wanted to experiment with-wire wrapping, chainmaille, fabrication, glass, enamels, etc. I was absolutely in love with the idea that I could create something so unique and beautiful with my vision and my own two hands.

One night after an exhausting day at the lab, I told my husband and soul mate, John, if there was one thing I could be when I grew up it would be a jewelry designer. He replied, "So, why don't you?" Heck, why did I think I needed permission to go from geeky clinical scientist to jewelry designer? It is my life! ;) My family has been very supportive and I love the fact that my home studio allows me to be around all the loves of my life: my husband, John, and two children, Brittney and Blake. There are many times that mom is saying just let me finish baking this glass or do this one last solder......

From my first jewelry trunk show to adding a web site , I have felt truly blessed to have found my passion and to be able to earn a living from it. I consider myself a stone whisperer. No, I'm not crazy but literally stones and glass speak to me. Sometimes, I'll sketch out a design but most often I just work with a stone/glass cabochon until it looks right. Everywhere I look I see something than can be interpreted via jewelry .I did tell you I was passionate and addicted!

I know you're dying to ask but why a Diva? Diva is Italian, derived from the latin word, which literally means goddess. I want every woman who wears my jewelry to celebrate by feeling like a Diva, a goddess , who is not afraid to stand out and shine!

So, Martha, thank you for sharing your wisdom!! ;)
